Week one
You'll see some swelling, scabbing, and redness around the grafts. Most people return to desk work within a few days. Follow the clinic's washing and sleeping rules carefully — the grafts are most fragile now.
Weeks 2–4: the shed
The transplanted hairs generally fall out — known as shock loss. It's alarming but normal; the follicle stays and regrows later.
Months 3–6: growth returns
New hairs begin coming in, thin at first and thickening over time. This is when real progress becomes visible.
Months 9–12: the result
By nine to twelve months you're close to the finished look, with 90–95% graft survival under a skilled surgeon. Most keep you on finasteride/minoxidil to protect your untransplanted hair so the result holds.
